How Shipyu Works

Everything you need to know about tracking, labels, insurance, integrations, and more.

Tracking Shipments

Add tracking numbers manually, via CSV, or by scanning barcodes. Track across 100+ carriers worldwide.

Manual Entry

Click the + Add Shipment button from any page. The popup opens on the Scan tab by default, but you can switch to the Manual tab.

  1. Paste one or more tracking numbers into the text area (one per line, up to 50 at a time).

  2. Shipyu auto-detects the carrier for each number. You can override the carrier manually if needed.

  3. Set the direction (Inbound or Outbound) for the batch, or override per row.

  4. Optionally add an Order ID to link the shipment to a specific order, and configure insurance (outbound only).

  5. Click Add Shipments — tracking begins immediately.

Bulk CSV Import

For large batches, switch to the CSV tab in the Add Shipment popup. Upload a .csv file (up to 5 MB) with your tracking data.

Shipyu auto-maps common column headers like tracking_number, carrier, order_id, and declared_value. If your headers don't match, you can manually assign them.

  1. Upload your CSV file (drag-and-drop or file picker).

  2. Review the column mapping and confirm detected columns are correct.

  3. Preview rows (paginated at 25) — edit individual tracking numbers, carriers, or order IDs inline.

  4. Set batch direction and optional insurance (outbound only), then submit.

Tip

Shipyu automatically corrects Excel's scientific notation issue (e.g., 9.40011E+21 is expanded back to the full tracking number).

Scan Mode

Scan Mode is the default tab when you open Add Shipment. It's designed for warehouse workflows — scan a barcode, hit Enter, and move to the next package.

  1. Focus is automatically placed on the scan input field. Scan a barcode with any USB or Bluetooth scanner (or type manually).

  2. Press Enter to add the number to the list. The input auto-clears and refocuses for the next scan.

  3. Carrier detection runs automatically in the background. Duplicates are caught in real time.

  4. When you're done scanning, review the list and click Add Shipments.

Inbound vs Outbound

Every shipment in Shipyu has a direction:

  • Outbound (↑) — packages you're sending to customers, buyers, or recipients. Shown with a blue accent.
  • Inbound (↓) — packages coming to you — purchases, returns, or supplier orders. Shown with a green accent.

The Shipments page has separate tabs for each direction, with independent filters, sorting, and pagination. Your tab preference is saved automatically.

Status Meanings

Shipyu normalizes carrier statuses into a consistent set of labels:
