How Shipyu Works
Everything you need to know about tracking, labels, insurance, integrations, and more.
Shipment Protection
Protect your outbound shipments up to $5,000 against loss, damage, and theft.
Overview
Shipyu offers shipment protection (insurance) on outbound shipments. Coverage protects against loss, damage, and theft up to your declared value.
- On Shipyu labels — toggle protection during label purchase. Premium is calculated and charged with the label.
- On outbound shipments — add protection from the shipment detail drawer, as long as the package hasn't been scanned into the carrier network yet.
Pricing
Protection is priced at 1.25% of the declared value, with the following minimums:
| Declared Value | Premium |
|---|---|
| $50 | $0.70 |
| $100 | $1.25 |
| $500 | $6.25 |
| $5,000 (max) | $62.50 |
Insurance is only available for outbound shipments. Inbound tracking numbers are not eligible for protection.
Eligibility
Protection can only be added to outbound shipments before they enter the carrier network:
- Eligible — outbound shipment with status Pre-Shipment or Unknown with no physical scan events.
- Always eligible — Shipyu-purchased labels are eligible regardless of status (as long as there's no existing active insurance).
- Not eligible — inbound shipments, or packages already In Transit, Out for Delivery, Delivered, or with carrier scan events.
Filing Claims
If a protected shipment is lost, damaged, or stolen, file a claim directly from your dashboard:
Click File a Claim and select the affected shipment from your protected packages.
Choose the claim type: Lost, Damaged, or Theft.
Enter the claim amount (up to your insured value), a description of the issue, and your contact information.
Submit — the claim is filed with the insurance provider and you can track its status from your dashboard.
